At NMDP, we believe each of us holds the key to curing blood cancers and disorders. As a global nonprofit leader in cell therapy, NMDP creates essential connections between researchers and supporters to inspire action and accelerate innovation to find life-saving cures. With the help of blood stem cell donors from the world’s most diverse registry and our extensive network of transplant partners, physicians, and caregivers, we’re expanding access to treatment so that every patient can receive their life-saving cell therapy. NMDP. Find cures. Save lives. Iota Nu Delta has partnered with NMDP for over 15 years, helping to spread awareness on campuses and across the South Asian community, to grow the NMDP Registry with committed new members, and to help diversify the members of the registry. Currently, only 9 percent of the members on the NMDP Registry identify as Asian American, Native Hawaiian and/or Pacific Islander. If you aren’t already on the registry, you can learn more and request a swab kit by visiting https://my.nmdp.org/IOTANUDELTA or texting IOTANUDELTA to 61474.

FREE ONLINE COURSE:
The Science Behind Matching Patients and Donors
Many people may think that matching is based on having a similar blood type. However, it is based on human leukocyte antigens (HLA) – which are proteins or markers on your cells. IND members have complimentary access to this online course for those interested in learning more about the process of matching patients and donors. It takes 15-20 minutes to complete.
Follow these steps to access the free online course:
1. Click on this link: HLA for the Rest of Us: An Introduction to HLA and Matching for Non-Science Folks
2. Enter “IND” before your first name in the “First Name” field. e.g. “IND John”
3. Take the course and encourage your classmates, peers, and friends to take the course as well.
